Gold Coast Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance is a non-profit 501-C3 organization that supports people with mood disorders, are clinically depression, have bipolar disorder (manic depression), or are dually diagnosed. We were organized in 1995 and are an affiliate of the national Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance.
The mission of our organization is to educate patients, families, professionals and the public concerning the nature of the depressive and bipolar illnesses as treatable medical diseases; to foster self-help for patients and families; to eliminate discrimination and stigma; to improve access to care; and to advocate for research toward the elimination of these illnesses.
Local assistance is provided primarily through our support groups. GCDBSA Support Groups are for people with mood disorders, depression, bipolar disorder, and their family members, to discuss topics related to living with these illnesses without worrying about the fear of stigma and to learn coping strategies from others with these illnesses. There is no charge to attend our support groups. We offer and extensive selection of free literature regarding these illnesses including a quarterly newsletter.
Our support groups work to educate and empower those who have mood disorders. We provide information and a sense of community for those with this illness. We touch lives in so many important ways. No one needs to cope with a mood disorder alone. Instead of isolation, we provide great hope for a better future.
